West Zone crush East by 90 runs

– Easy win for South Zone 

West Zone and South Zone registered comprehensive victories in their respective games on Day 2 of JK Bose T20 cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

At Ambedkar College ground, West Zone crushed East Zone by 97 runs. Batting first, West Zone piled up 213 runs for the loss of five wickets with the help of a blistering knock from Ashwin Ferro (67) and unbeaten half-century from Taus Rizvi (50)Devendra Pandey also chipped in with a cameo of 34 runs.

Lakshyasit Gogoi scalped two wickets but gave away 34 runs while Hirak Malakar and Soubhagya Rath got a wicket each. In reply, East Zone could only manage 116 runs losing six wickets.  All-rounders Malakar (37), Gogoi (21) and Rath (18) were the significant contributors. Ferro excelled with the ball as well and bagged two wickets for 18 runs. He was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance. Ehteram Ali, Sanjeev Samyal, Devendra Pandey and Sandeep Dabhekar got a wicket each.

At Vasant Nagar ground, South Zone overwhelmed North by 30 runs. Ashwin Achal’s unbeaten half-century (63*) and Ramesh Kote’s unbeaten 43 helped South Zone post 159/2. Jaswinder Singh Sidhu took both the wickets. Chasing 160 to win, North Zone could score just 129 runs losing seven wickets. Sidhu top scored with 18 runs while Rupesh Ranjan made 14. Hardik Worah scalped three wickets giving away just 10 runs. Ramakrishnan, Karthik Lakshmanan, Ramesh Kote and Ashwin took a wicket each. Ashwin was named MoM.
