Runners, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts from more than 23 cities will converge in Nagpur to spread the message of “Run for Fitness” through the Nagpur City Marathon, Powered by MAHA METRO. On Dec 8, about 3,000 runners will take on the streets of Nagpur amidst cheering by OCR volunteers, families, students and entertainment troupes.
Since 2016, Orange City Runners (OCR) has conducted and supported about 150 group runs in Nagpur. This includes supporting runs for schools, colleges, societies and one for the specially abled children as well. OCR also runs a month long training programme ‘Runfest’ for beginners every year. Runfest teaches the technically correct form of running along with overall body exercises and is conducted under the able guidance of Dr Neena Sahu & Dr Mohd Soheb both physiotherapists. Going forward, Nagpur City Marathon will become the largest and the most entertaining Marathon in Nagpur.
A race for all runners
Nagpur City Marathon will see participation from several senior bureaucrats, corporate leaders, doctors, lawyers, families and students. The list of registered participants includes Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Mr Abhijit Bangar (10 kms) and Dy Municipal Commissioner Mr Rajesh Mohite (21 kms), Spl. IG KMM Prasanna, DCP Vikram Sali, DCP Chinmay Pandit, DCP Rahul Makhnikar, DCP Gajanan Rajmane, DCP Vivek Masal. About 100 runners from NMC and about 400 runners from Nagpur City Police and Nagpur Range Police have also registered. Additionally about 300 school children too have registered for this unique first edition of Nagpur City Marathon. The Marathon includes three distances: Half-marathon (21K), 10 K and 5K. For the casual runners and families, a 5K Fun Run option is also available.
An Entertainment Extravaganza
Along each route, runners should expect full-on entertainment and support from 1000’s of families. The entertainment lineup includes several bands including the City Police band, 3 different Dhol teams, Saxophone, traditional Lezim dance and the best of Nagpur DJ’s. The highlight of the Marathon will be the supportive Nagpur citizens lining the route to give runners a well-deserved break.
Fully Devoted to Social Cause
Orange City Runners Society is run by volunteers who are selflessly giving back to the local communities. The Marathon registration featured the selling of Gold Charity Bibs, where all the proceeds will be donated to National Cancer Institute (NCI). Next year, OCR wishes to partner with several more NGO’s to sell Charity Bibs to raise money for other social causes.

Orange City Runner Society (OCRS) is formed with simple objective, “Run for Fitness”. They are devoted to inculcating the habit of running in the citizens of Nagpur. Marathon running is just an extension of their simple objective as marathon gives a target and achieving the target gives the motivation to step out of the comfort zone. OCR has grown leaps and bounds in the last 4 years and has trained more than 2000 runners in Nagpur. Several OCR runners have participated and won many races both in India and internationally.
