City police appeal netizens to keep caution while using social networking sites

It has been reported that amid lockdown the city police has asked the citizens to keep caution while using social networking sites like Whatsapp and Facebook after many cases of these social networking sites being hacked were revealed. Recently the are number of hacking cases have increased.

And eight such complaints have been filed in the city and police investigations are being done. In view of this, police have issued guidelines to take precaution in this matter.

As per the information, the social networking sites are hacked through two ways. Either by sending a link or by seeking the OTP on phone and then sending the link. By doing this the information about the user is extracted from the respective whatsApp and facebook accounts. There is no reason to suspect since the message is from a known number and the concerned person readily shares the OTP leading to his account also getting hacked. Similar cases of hacking are likely to have occurred in other cities like Thane, Pune, Mumbai and several other cities. The Cyber Cell is doing investigation regarding this matter. Police have appealed the stay vigilant and keep themselves safe. And if they found any such case, they should contact the cyber cell immediately.
