Rise in covid patients, 5 quarantine centres converted into CC centre

Considering the rapid rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the city, the district administration has converted five more quarantine centre  and one private hotel into Covid Care Centre (CC). With this the number of beds in seven Covid Care Centre has increased to more than 2000.

Last week several questions were being raised on the planning of Covid positive patients in Nagpur district. In view of the increasing number of patients, the administration has changed MLA Hostel quarantine centre into Covid Care Centre. Later, Covid Care Centre was started in Hingna based Shalinitai Meghe hospital after the 370 beds of MLA Hostel Covid Care Centre became full. But on the very first day, the 40 beds of Shalinitai Meghe Hospital were also full.

Due to the increasing number of asymptomatic patients, the situation has arisen to admit patients in ICU and HDU (Hi Dependency Unit) of Mayo and GMCH Covid Hospital.

Recently few patients have created video of irregularities of the hospital and made it viral on the social media platform. This created tension among doctors. Taking this matter seriously, divisional commissioner held a meeting with district collector, NMC commissioner and other officials. The meeting has decided to convert five quarantine centres into Corona care Centre. Due lack of basic facilities at these centres patients have now demanded to be sent back home.

In connection with this matter it has decided to convert Pachpaoli police quarter, Vanamati, VNIT Hostel Symbiosis Hostel and a private hotel near Mayo Hospital into Covid Care Centre. Altogether the these seven Covid Care Centres will have total 2290 beds. This includes 600 beds in Pachpaoli, 600 in VNIT, 500 in Symbiosis, 80 in Vanamati, 370 in MGA Hostel, 40 in Hingna and 100 in a private hotel. Asymptomatic positive patients will be kept here.

As per news guidelines, home quarantine will be done as soon as the test report comes negative. Earlier, those coming in contact with positive patients were kept in the institutional quarantine Center. A patient was sent for home isolation if the he tested negative on the 12th day. But now if the first test report of the suspect is negative then he will be sent for home isolation. This will reduce congestion in quarantine centers.

Presently the number of beds in Rajnagar ,law college, Morris college  Hostel, Ravi Bhavan and RPTS quarantine centers has been reported to be over 600.
