Big relief to farmers, State Govt announces Rs 700 bonus for paddy crops

A big relief to the farmers of East Vidarbha as the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) Government has announced additional bonus of Rs 700 over the per quintal price of the paddy. Now the standing rates of Rs 1,800 per quintal of paddy will get additional bonus of Rs 700, taking the total price per quintal to Rs 2500.

Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia and Nagpur districts of East Vidarbha are paddy growing districts. While, they were expected to have a good harvest this year, the heavy rainfall and and subsequent floods resulted in heavy losses to the farmers. Farmers of these districts are totally dependent upon farming for their living.

Understanding their situation, Minister Vijay Vadettiwar himself visited the fields to see the conditions of the farm and the crop damage and announced help from his department.

Chandrapur: The State Government had sent a letter to the Central Government to provide sub- stantial assistance to the farmers, after which the Central team had also visited the region. However, no concrete assistance has been announced by the Center yet.

Refusing more delay in the matter, Vijay Wadettiwar proposed for providing raised MSP in the form of bonus to the paddy farmers. Hence, against the last year’s rate of Rs 1800 per quintal, State Government has ann- ounced Rs 700 bonus and now paddy will be procured at the rate of Rs 25,00 per quintal.

After the announcement the farmers of this region have expressed their gratitude towards Vijay Wadettiwar for his initiative in the matter.
