Some relief for COVID infected patients

The world is facing a pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) for which no proven specific therapies are available other than supportive ones.

A new therapy that has come to the rescue for the Covid-19 affected patients is Thymosin Alpha 1, a drug molecule named as Immunocin Alpha 1 that has been able to modulate the immune system and has helped a lot of patients across India. Critical Care Specialists across India are highly recommending the use of this molecule in Moderate to severe Covid-19 patients. The treating physician decides the dose of Immunocin Alpha 1 depending on the severity of patients COVID-19 symptoms. The treatment duration is 7 days. The drug has been well tolerated without any adverse effects.

It has been observed that the patients with co-morbid conditions are highly susceptible to the COVID infection. This patient population has also presented as a high-risk group with a high mortality rate throughout the world. Immunocin Alpha 1 has shown benefit in treatment of COVID-19 patients with comorbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and also in elderly patients.
Thymosin Alpha 1 has a history of treatment of diseases in which the immunity is dysregulated like hepatitis, AIDS and SARS. As COVID-19 is a viral disease where an optimum immunity is extremely important to fight back the disease.

Inadequate response and Immunity Misfires can lead to grave outcome in covid 19 disease. Thymosin alpha is an immunomodulator which activates T cells in our body which helps to kill the virus and modulates immunity perfectly.Thymosin alpha 1 has been proven by research studies to be a safe and effective medication in treatment of COVID-19.

Dr. Nitin Shinde, Consultant Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Alexis Hospital, Nagpur said “Currently, Nagpur and the entire country is showing reduced numbers of Covid-19 cases. However, all the experts are predicting another wave of Covid-19 cases and we need to be prepared for the same.
Speaking on the new molecule therapy, Dr. Nitin Shinde said “Immunocin Alpha 1 is a wonderful molecule. We are using it since the beginning of pandemic. I started using it when I myself developed moderate to severe COVID pneumonia. Most of the therapies in the Covid-19 treatment are still experimental and there is mixed data about the efficacy.

However, it is important that whatever molecule in around 200 casesmostly in moderate variety All these patients have shown a good improvement in resolution of fever, and inflammatory markers by restoration of lymphopenia Prolonged lymphopenia during Covid-19 gives rise to increased duration of hospitalization and higher frequency of post Covid-19 complications such as lung fibrosis, General exhaustion, etc.

Dr. Nitin Shinde further explained saying “We are always looking at multipronged therapeutic attack on Covid-19. In that arsenal, we now have effective antivirals, potent anti-inflammatory medicine. Since the mortality in Covid-19 occur due to dysregulation of immune response, we always need a weapon which can modulate immune responses Apart from multivitamins and traditional disease modifying rheumatological agents, we didn’t have a safe and potent immunomodulatory agent. Thymosin Alpha 1 has filled that gap. We no more feel helpless against this deadly disease that has claimed the lives of over 12 lakh people worldwide. Immunocin Alpha 1 helps to bring cytokine storm under control & ultimately reduces duration of hospitalizations by restoration of lymphocytopenia & reversion of exhausted T cells. We generally start Imunocin Alpha 1 when the lymphocyte count is less than 20.”

Renowned Doctor who was part of Covid-19 Task Force in Nagpur, Dr. Nirmal Jaiswal, Internal Medicine Critical Care, Wockhardt Hospital, Nagpur added “This is a very good molecule and It has shown promising results. I had even prescribed this molecule to those patients as well who were taking treatmentat home for Covid-19. The measure changes that I had seen is that the lymphocyte count started coming up within a week as soon as patients were given this therapy. Besides, the ICU stay of patients also came down. Also, I could see the mortality rate coming down. This is a wonderful molecule and it’s a very cost-effective drug. I would recommend all other critical care specialists across India to use Immunocin Alpha 1 in moderate to severe cases. I have big hopes from this molecule and it has been a wild card in our fight against this virus.”

Dr. Nirmal Jaiswal summed up with an advice to all patients “Patients should be aware of this Thymosin Alpha 1 molecule and can check with the physicians if they can prescribe it for them. Besides, cycling is the best exercise to improve the immunity. One should do cycling 20 kms a day to boost up the immunity besides walking of 5 kms a day. Also, early detection is the key. Do not discount early warning symptoms or take a fever lightly. As in the good old days we had public service messages saying “Any Fever Could be Malaria’, similarly, any fever could be Covid-19, but, once detected early, it can be cured easily – and with the immunomodulators, we have a great chance to save lives” Dr. Nitin Shinde’s advice to all Covid-19 patients “There is no need to panic as this disease is easily treatable. Covid-19 patients need to closely monitor their lymphocyte count from day 6 to day 14 that’s where one can become lymphopeniac and complications develop that’s the window when one can develop Pneumonia”
