The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday conducted a raid at New Era Hospital in Wardhaman Nagar and allegedly found a stock of medicines stored without the required licence.
According to officials, the inspection revealed that medicines were being stored at an unauthorized location within the hospital premises. The FDA has initiated further action under the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Officials also alleged that patients were being compelled to purchase medicines from a specific pharmacy operating within the hospital premises. The matter is under investigation, and the FDA is examining whether any violations of drug sale and storage regulations have taken place.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, officials said.
New Era Hospital Chief Executive Officer Vikas Mishra denied that patients were forced to buy medicines from any particular pharmacy.
“There is no compulsion for any patient to purchase medicines from a specific medical store. There appears to have been a misunderstanding in this case. Our supplier had temporarily kept the medicines on the ground floor. Due to a shortage of manpower, the medicines could not be shifted to the pharmacy before the FDA inspection. Medicines are not stored at unauthorized locations in the hospital as a practice. We will present our explanation before the FDA,” Mishra said.
