180 people lose their lives in city due to road mishaps in 2020

As many as 180 people have lost their lives due to road accidents this year in Nagpur District. In Nagpur, there are 24 accident-prone spots that claimed the lives of 27 people this year.

The Home Department analysed data of 11 months of road accidents this year. Out of these 10 traffic zones road areas coming under Lakadganj, Cotton Market, and Sadar zones are completely safe, there are no accident spots in these zones.

The good news is that the number of accident spots in the city have reduced from 43 in 2019 to just 24 in 2020.

PI API Mane of Sakkardara Traffic Zone said, “The reasons for the number of accidents could be many like over speeding of the vehicles, disobeying of traffic rules by citizens, riders of two-wheeler four wheelers not taking safety measures like wearing helmets and in cars making sure that seat belts are on, drunk and driving, more people seated in two-wheelers than permissible limits.

He said that several other factors like under construction of infrastructure projects, dimly-lit stretches, poor condition of city roads are also responsible for an increase in the number of accidents in the city.

Mane also said that the Traffic and Police Department of the city are taking various steps to decrease the number of accidents in the city like the construction of speed breakers in road to avoid overspeeding, heavy fine on those who are found violating traffic rules, and many more.

Out of the 24 accident zones in the city 4 are in Kamptee Zone, Indora and Ajni zones have four zones each, there are 3 accident zone in MIDC zone.

Maharajbagh Chowk under Sitabuldi traffic zone is a well-known accident-prone spot of the city.
