Covid-19 surge in city, civic authority to recruit specialist doctors

The civic authority has decided to recruit doctors to tide over current shortage of medical staff in view of increasing COVID-19 cases in city. The specialist medical staff would be engaged on contract basis under the National Civil Health Mission. In light of the increasing number of patients in the city, there is a need for specialist Doctors in government hospitals as well as civic run hospitals to manage the current situation. For this medical officers will be appointed on honorarium basis on contract basis by the NMC.

Considering the growing number of corona patients in the city, 400 extra beds will be provided in government medical colleges and hospitals. For the same expert medical health officers will be appointed to ensure proper care is provided to patients. Under the National Civil Health Mission, MD (Intensive Visit, Physician as well as Anaesthetist) will be appointed as specialists. According to the current prevailing honorarium, MD Doctors would be provided honorarium up to Rs. 2 lakh, but NMC will provide extra Rs 50,000. So total emoluments would be Rs 2.5 lakh and for MBBS doctors are currently getting Rs 60,000. But for this post, NMC will provide honorarium upto Rs 1 lakh. Mayor has appealed to doctors to come forward to help in the treatment of corona patients.
