Covid fear- Villagers denied cremation of woman, husband carries on bicyle

Jaunpur: The COVID-19 pandemic had made us witness shocking pictures depicting inhumanity on every alternate day. The second wave has just made the situation more worst. In one such heart wrenching incident an old man from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district was forced to carry his deceased wife’s body on bicycle in search of a place to cremate after villagers did not allow her funeral in village fearing COVID-19 infection.

However, after coming to know about the elderly man’s ordeal, the Jaunpur police conducted the last rites of the woman at Ramghat on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said that the woman’s condition had deteriorated on Monday, after which she was admit- ted to the Umanath Singh District Hospital.

In one of the photographs, the old man is seen sitting on the roadside while the body of the woman lies on the road along with the bicycle.

However, she died soon after and the hospital sent her body back in an ambulance.

The local.people did not come forward to help the elderly man in cremating the deceased. They also warned him not to cremate his wife in the cremation ground in the village.

The district administration, however, has not confirmed if the deceased was Covid positive.

This incident is one of the many incidents of inhumanit being reported during the second wave of coronavirua. Recently a man abandoned his mother by the roadside in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh after she tested positive for Covid-19.

The incident came to light after the video of the incident went viral on social media. Seeing the woman lying by the roadside, local residents admitted her to a local hospital where she died during the treatment.
