Strict restrictions, traders in city under financial peril, asks state govt to provide package

As the city is witnessing a grim situation due to Covid-19 and imposed the strict restrictions to contain the spread of the pandemic, and the restrictions will be extended by 15 days from May 1.And the traders are expecting some relaxation, but the extension of the curbs is really giving headache for the traders. Due to the country wide lockdown last year in April, May the citizens, traders, as well as farmers faced huge loss. Like the previous year, this year also the business affected due to the curbs.

The traders said that they are hardly earning any revenue but their expenses have increased. This year in February when the second wave of Covid-19 was there, the business had already down. Besides this, the salon owners, tea kiosks, beauty parlours, toy shops, hotels and restaurants are suffering huge financial loss. The president of NVCC Ashwin Mehadia stated that the traders who are in financial crisis require help. They are under tremendous pressure due to frequent curbs and in future, if the shops open.it will take some time to recover from the bad situation. Therefore, the state government should announce the package for the traders. To add to their woes, the NMC as well as MSEDCL are pressurizing the traders for taxes as well as electricity bills pending in March. Due to increasing debt and daily losses, it has become extremely difficult for the traders to earn their livelihood and give the regular salary to their employees.
