No city has a monopoly on talent: Sanchi Jiwane

It is not that Mumbai or Pune has talent in films as well as a theater performance, Nagpur too has equal talent and is recognized everywhere. No city has a monopoly on talent, said Sanchi Jiwane. The best actress announced at the 11th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival -2021 was talking to The Live Nagpur in a candid interview. Unfolding pages of her life, Sanchi added “At the age of 4, I played my first play. Acting is the soul of our family.” Her father Sanjay Jiwane, famous writer, producer, and stage artist. Her mother Vandana Jiwane, a noted journalist and stage artist did not compel Sanchi to join acting. “I was free to select my career. But the inborn passion for acting compelled me to make acting my profession,” said Sanchi. She has done Master’s in Theater Art from Mumbai University in the year 2017, under the guidance of Mangesh Bansod, then HoD. “Rema Lagu, Nadera Babbar, Sai Paranjape, and many more were our guest faculties and the exposure to acting was very high,” she said. After completing her master’s in acting, Sanchi did her Master’s in Mass Communication from Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) in the year 2019. Before being recognized on the silver screen as the best actor for the film Paidagir, Sanchi has made her footprint strong in theater performances too. She was in the lead role with Dr. Girish Oak and Bharat Jadhav in the play ‘Well come Jindagi’. The play was very famous and it was staged in Dubai, Delhi and other places with more than 100 shows. She has also received the best actress award from Maharashtra Government for her acting in the play ‘Vithabai’ in 2016. Her role as ‘Gandhari’ in the play ‘Andha Yug’ will be green in the memory of her fans forever.

The film ‘Paidagir,’ which gave world recognition to city artists and especially to Sanchi, is their home production. “It was a play, written and directed by my father Sanjay Jiwane. My mother used to play the lead role of ‘Shewanta’ in the drama, which I played in the film. In the year 1989, the drama ‘Paidagir’ made ripples in the theater world. It owned every award right from State Government to all competitions, in which it was staged. The grand success of the play, forced by well-wishers and fans to make a film on the same story,” Sanchi said proudly.

She added that the film Paidagir is a story of a pickpocketer, who is involved in other criminal activities too. Belonging to the criminal community, Shawanta (Sanchi) in the film struggles to educate her son and make him a good citizen. Gaurav Ambare is the hero, Jay Bhagat is the child artist along with Shrikant Borkar, Sarnath Ramteke, Harish Gawai, Shweta Waghmare, Vandana Jiwane, Dr. Nilkant Kulsange as the star cast. Co-Producers are Surendra Awale, Nirmala Waghdhare, Yamini Nagrale, Bharti Alone, Tarka Jilte, Kiran Gajbhiye, Pankaj Kamble, Dr. Shital, and Pankaj Meshram. Music Director Anil Kawade and Music by Manan Mehta. The film is produced by Samma Ditthi Films. The film is about to release as soon as the cinema halls are open after the lockdown, Sanchi informed.

An assistant Professor in acting at VMV College, Sanchi wants to make a theater laboratory and Intimate studio in the city for artists. She is presently working for Indonesian Embassy along with Prithvi Theater Mumbai, in a lead role with Kiran Bawaskar for ‘Urubhangam’.
