Nagpur is set to become number one city in development in all sectors. The city is experiencing fast development in education, health facilities, industry etc. the responsibility of development may be shouldered by the government and local authorities, maintaining it is in the hands of people. This was stated by Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari.
Gadkari was speaking after performing boomipujan of beautification programme of Sonegaon Lake, here on Saturday. Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra State Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, MP Dr Vikas Mahatme were the guests of honour. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari was in the chair. MLC Parinay Fukey, MLC Pravin Datke, former minister Chandrashekhar Bawankul, office bearers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation were present.
Nagpur is experiencing development, which no other city in the country could. Double decker transport, 20 storey Zero Mile Metro Station, waste water treatment, 24X7 water supply, employment to 57,000 youth in MIHAN, 11-seater Jet aircraft to be made here, use of electric buses, ethanol pump etc. Taking Nagpur to number one position in the country is our responsibility, Gadkari reiterated.
All this was possible because of support and blessings of people of the city. He also appreciated the work undertaken by Fadnavis, during his tenure as Chief Minister and de-silting of Sonegaon lake by Corporator Sandip Joshi. He also referred to efforts of senior citizen Gopath Thosar for protecting the lake.
Various personalities, who have contributed for the work were felicitated at the hands of Gadkari. Architect Nishikant Bhiwgade and contractor S S Patil and Company are handling the beautification work.
Fadnavis said that Sonegaon Lake is a feather in the cap of the city. Efforts to encroach upon the catchment area of the lake by some vested interests was successfully defended by people. Under the leadership of Gadkari development at fast pace was possible. A survey has revealed that by the year 2030 Nagpur will be on the top in the list of developing cities.
Dayashankar Tiwari said that several novel developmental projects were proposed by Gadkari and Fadnavis made the funds available. He thanked both for making the city beautiful and developed one. In his introductory remarks he gave information about various developmental projects in the city.
Gadkari will perform bhoomipujan of beautification of Gandhi Sagar on Sunday.
