One person succumbed to injuries in a level-4 fire that broke out on the 19th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Lalbaug area today, leaving several others injured.
The fire is under control and efforts are on to ensure it doesn’t erupt again, an official said. The incident took place at the city’s luxury One Avighna Park society.
The visuals showed a man falling from the building’s 19th floor that was engulfed in flames. The massive fire sent thick plumes of black smoke in the air that could be seen for miles.
A senior KEM Hospital official said that the man, identified as Arun Tiwari, 30, was brought to the hospital at around 12.45 pm. He was declared brought dead.
Soon after the incident Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray visited at Avighna Park apartments, Curry Road where fire broke out this afternoon.
“Visited the spot of the unfortunate fire incident at One Avighna Park and met with the rescued residents of the building. Fire has been doused and cooling ops are underway. I met and thanked the brave jawans of the Mumbai Fire Brigade for their swift response,” Thackeray tweeted.
“This incident in a high rise building only reiterates how important fire safety drills, fire safety norms like sprinklers, fire refuge areas are in every building,” he said.
