Caste certificate not mandatory to obtain Ration Card

The District Supply Department announced on Tuesday that a caste certificate is not required to obtain a new ration card.

According to Ramesh Bende, the district supply officer, some adjustments have been made to the online ration card application process. However, submitting a caste certificate with the application is not required. As a result, the notion that a caste certificate is required when applying for a new ration card is false.” New guidelines have been developed in order to apply for a new ration card. There was also a mention of a caste certificate in this. As a result, there was a lot of confusion. It also drew criticism from the general public.

However, the district public supply department has clarified that a caste certificate is not necessary while applying for a new ration card.

To get a new ration card, to get a new ration card, passport size photo, of the family head, certificate of cancellation of old ration card, bank statement of the family head, photocopy of Aadhaar card of all family members, electricity bill, PAN card, and voter ID card, etc., is necessary. The ration card is an important document for the poor in-country. A total of 7,76,326 people in Nagpur district holds ration card. They avail the facility of subsidised ration provided by the government. The card is also used as address proof. Also, a ration card can be used to apply for a new LPG gas connection, driving license, bank account, SIM card, voter ID.
