RTE: 7,000 application registered in a single day

RTE: 7,000 application registered in a single day

Under the RTE, a record of over 7,000 applications were submitted in a single day. In just two days, 7,647 children’s applications were received. Given the large number of applications, it is expected that parents will have a difficult time enrolling their children in their preferred school this year.

The admissions process will be more difficult, particularly in metropolitan institutions. RTE has been implemented in 663 schools in the area. In these schools, 25% of the seats, or 6186 seats, are reserved for children from low-income families.

The number of reserved seats in city schools is much less as compared to rural areas as most of the
reputed English medium schools in the city are not included in the RTE.

Some other schools are outside the city limits. Therefore, children may have to be deprived of admission to these schools. However, officials of the education department said that after scrutiny of online applications, many applications get cancelled.

Many parents submit more than one application so that there is no problem in the admission of chil dren. After scrutiny of the application, if there is more than one application of the same child, it is rejected.
