LAD College to celebrate 90 years of establishment, Valedictory function on May 7

Lady Amritbai Daga (LAD) College for Women of Arts, Commerce & Science and Smt Ratnidevi Purohit College of Home Science and Home Science Technology, Nagpur is celebrating 90 years of its existence. 

The valedictory function of the celebration will be held on May7(Saturday). Vimala R, District Collector, will be the chief guest on this occasion. Adv Sunil Manohar, President of Women’s EducationSociety, will preside over the function to be held in the premises of the college. 

Various programmes were organised throughout the year under the banner of ‘Navrang’ by ‘Sugandh’, Alumnae Association of the college. Dr Deepali Kotwal is Co-ordinator, Dr Nanda Rathi is CoCoordinator, and Dr Karuna Ganviris Convenor of Navrang celebrations.

On April 21, 1932, the Women’s Education Society was founded, with Rao Bahadur M B Kinkhede as the first President, YM Pathak as the first Secretary, and Ramabai Tambe as the first Principal. Dr. Iyengar, Dr. Rajani Rai, Dr. Panna Akhani, and Dr. Shyamala Nair, to name a few, have led the college with strong and visionary leadership.

According to a news release, the current Principal is Dr Deepali Kotwal. The college is commemorating its 90th anniversary this year. The college was founded at a time when women’s education was seen as a socio-humanitarian endeavour that would transform generations of women through education.
