Inflation affecting catering business in city

Following the COVID incident two years ago, the catering industry suffered setbacks. Its current decline is due to the high rate of inflation.

Organizers of various family and social occasions are cutting back on their budgets due to the high cost of raw materials.

A wedding reception with a normal attendance of 1500 people. The number of attendees has dropped to between 600 and 700.

According to sources, the decrease in the number of guests has had a direct impact on the catering industry.

According to Chandrakant Khangar of Khangar Catering, a budget of 1000 people can only feed 600 to 650 people presently. Against their will, many families have reduced the number of guests.

If the cost of a single raw material had increased, the impact of inflation would have been less severe. However, as a result of the strong inflationary tendency, the prices of milk, paneer, vegetables, and food grains have all increased at the same time.

This apart cost of labour ers too has tremendously gone up due to which it is possible to invite only half the number of guests in a full sanctioned budget.

Some families are howev er, adopting different course of action. They have not ommitted any guest from the list of invi tees.

On the other hand they have reduced the number of delicacies to be served on the platter.

Bandu Raut of Jagdamba Caterers sand earlier, they used to work without taking advance money. However nowadays as the expenditure has increased, they have been forced to take advance money because they have to pay cash while purchasing products required in a kitchen.
