36-hours Kanhan WTP shutdown on November 21, 2022, Major leakages to be plugged on Kanhan feeder lines

In a bid to plug major leakages on Kanhan-1300 mm, Kanhan-900 mm, and Kanhan 600 mm main feeder lines originating from the Kanhan water treatment plant, The Nagpur Municipal Corporation, and Orange City Water have planned to take 36- hours shutdown of Kanhan Water Treatment Plant from November 21, 2022 (Monday) at 10 am to November 22, 2022 (Tuesday) at 10 pm.  

During the 36-hour shutdown, technical leakage plugging works like leakage repairing on the Kanhan-1300 feeder main near N Kumars Bungalow at Kamptee Road, leakage repairing on the Kanhan-900 feeder main at Kanhan WTP premises and another leakage repairing on Kanhan-600 feeder main at Kanhan WTP premises.

 A 600×600 mm interconnection of pipeline work will also be carried out at Lakadganj ESR premises along with several other Kanhan WTP maintenance works will also be carried out during a shutdown.

As a shutdown is needed to save potable water & reduce non-revenue water (NRW), NMC & OCW has appealed to citizens from the above-mentioned affected areas to cooperate and store sufficient water for their use in advance. 

Following this 36-hour shutdown, water supply in almost 33 ESRs from 4 zones of Satranjipura, Lakadganj, Aasi Nagar, and Nehru Nagar zone shall remain affected.

Further, as 33 ESRs will remain empty, water supply through Tankers will also be not possible during and after shutdown in affected areas.

After completion of technical work, it will take a few more hours to clear the air trapping and restore the flow at ESR’s inlet & the actual water supply in the affected areas, so the water supply in the early morning of November 23, 2022 (Wednesday ) may be limited and with low pressure.

Water supply from 33 ESR (Overhead water Tanks) to remain affected during the shutdown are: 

1. AshiNagar Zone : Bezonbagh ESR , Binaki -Existing , Binaki-1&2 , Indora-1&2, Gamdoor DT, Chappal Karkhana DT, & Jaswant Talkies DT command areas & Uppalwadi (NIT) ESR 
2. Satranjipura Zone: Bastarwadi-1 & Bastarwadi 2 ,Shanti Nagar ESR, Wanjari (Vinoba Bhave Nagar) , Itabhatti Square DT, 
3. Nehru Nagar Zone: Nandanvan (Old), Nandanvan I & II, , Sakkardara, I, II & III, Tajbagh ESR & Kharabi ESR. 
4. Lakadganj Zone: Bhandewadi, Deshpande LayOut (Bharatwada), Lakadganj 1 & 2, Minimata Nagar, Subhan Nagar ESR, Kalamana ESR and Pardi I & Pardi II & Babhulwan ESR

Citizens are requested to take note that during and after the shutdown at Kanhan WTP, Water supply through Tankers will also be not possible in the affected areas. NMC & OCW has appealed to citizens from the above-mentioned affected areas to cooperate and store sufficient water for their use in advance.
