Adding to the excitement of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, local soccer lovers can look forward to another feast when the eighth edition of the Majjuseth All India Gold Cup Football tournament takes place in Kamptee from November 25 to December 4, 2022, at the Military ground.
The ten-day long tournament, which will be held under the auspices of the Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA), will be organized by the United Football Welfare Association, Kamptee.
The last edition was held in 2019 when BSF, Jalandhar emerged as the champions. After a gap of two years due to the pandemic, the All India Gold Cup football tournament is resuming in Kamptee this weekend.
Six outstation teams to compete in the tournament
Ten teams will vie for the top honors in the tournament including six outstation outfits. Lucknow Army, Punjab Police, Ambarnath United, Mumbai, DK Pharma, Mumbai, Hyderabad Army and Tamil Nadu Police, Chennai will add the much-needed spice to the tournament, informed United Football Welfare Association secretary Mahmood Akhtar while addressing a press conference at the SJAN office here on Tuesday.
Local giants Young Muslim Football Club, Rahul Club, Ansar Club, Kamptee, and Rabbani Club, Kamptee will fight with the outstation teams.
The tournament will be played on a knock-out basis initially followed by the super league. After a rest day on December 3, the final will be played on December 4. Champions will get prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh, and runners-up to receive Rs 1 lakh
The inaugural match will be played between Kamptee’s two powerful teams — Rabbani Club and Ansar Club on November 25 at 2.30 pm.
Young Muslim Football Club will battle it out against Rahul Club in the second match on November 26.
The winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, while the runners-up will collect Rs 1 lakh. Besides, top performers in the tournament are poised to win individual prizes.
The man of the tournament will receive the Sardar Atal Bahadur Singh’s gold medal during the concluding ceremony on December 4, 2022.
Bimal Ghosh, who recently was conferred with the prestigious Dronacharya Award, will be felicitated by the organizers during the final day.
The organizing committee will be led by the chief patron of the United Football Welfare Association Haji Anees Ahmad.
Chief executive officer, Cantonment Board, Kamptee Abhijit Sanap, Col. KJ Hori, Sardar Gurmit Singh Saini, Col Krishna Nair, Col Amitabh Hoskote, Qamaruddin, and Mohammad Ayaz Rayeen will be the guests for the inaugural ceremony on Friday.
