Currently, the cargo weighing around 4-5 tonnes from the trains is unloaded at the concerned stations. Post unloading, the transporter or receiver of the consignment is used to collect it from the station itself.
Joint efforts of Railway and postal departments will now make it convenient for the Indian Railways to deliver the consignment to anybody’s doorstep.
The Gati Shakti Express Cargo Service of the Indian Postal Department and Indian Railways, the first train in the state will be running from Nagpur city in the month of January.
Under this new service, cargo will be delivered to any part of the country within 24 hours, said an official of the financial postal department.
All the necessary rules and regulations for this new service have been already decided in a meeting held with top officials of Central Railway, South East Central Railway, and the Postal Department.
