Seminar organized by MGMI Nagpur Chapter to ensure energy and mineral requirements

In order to ensure energy requirements of the Nation and to share the best practices of mineral and mineral industries, a galaxy of mining, metal and geology professionals assembled today at Hotel Tuli International, Nagpur, during a seminar organized by The Mining Geological & Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) Nagpur Chapter.

The Chief Guest of the program was Director (Technical), Coal India Limited Dr. B. Veera Reddy while Chairman-Cum Managing Director of Western Coalfields Limited Sh. Manoj Kumar, Chairman-Cum Managing Director of MOIL Sh. Ajit Kumar Saxena, APCCF Nagpur Sh. Naresh Zurmure, DMS (DGMS, Nagpur) Sh. Niraj Kumar, attended the seminar as guests of honour. Chairman of MGMI, Nagpur Chapter welcomed the dignitaries from various mineral industries.

While addressing the august gathering Sh. Manoj Kumar shared the best practices being adapted by WCL. He enlightened the gathering that India has 95 types of minerals and the contribution of the mining industry to county’s GDP is 2.2% which is to be increased to the level of 2.5%. He stressed upon long term planning and spoke about the various initiatives taken by WCL like first mile connectivity (FMC) projects for coal transportation, sustainable mining, OB to sand, pipe conveyor, closure of mine exercise, coal gasification, digitisation, mission SEHAT & TARASH. Recognizing the power of communication, he shared the communication initiatives taken up by WCL, namely Ru-Ba-Ru, WCL Samvaad and WCL Deep Jyoti. Before this, CMD MOIL spoke about the contribution of MOIL to the steel and mining industry and enlightened the gathering about the importance of magazine.

The chief guest of the program Director (Technical), CIL Dr. B Veera Reddy and President (National) MGMI appreciated the initiatives taken by WCL and Nagpur Chapter of MGMI, under the stewardship of Sh. A. K Singh, Director (Technical / P&P), WCL and President MGMI Nagpur Chapter. While addressing, he said the carbon emission during mining in our country is 35% and our aim is to make it net zero by 2030. We are to lower the per capita carbon emission in our country as compared to US, UK and UAE, he added. He further added that for the growth of our country we need more energy. As per vision 2047 document, we require to produce 1.5 Billion Tonnes of Coal to be self-reliant in the energy sector. Speaking upon the future of mining he said that to safeguard our environment we need to prepare proper road map for underground mining. A souvenir was released at the hands of the dignitaries on the dais on the occasion.

At the outset of the program Sh. A K Singh, Director (Technical / P&P), WCL and President MGMI Nagpur gave a welcome address and welcomed the dignitaries on the dais. The vote of thanks was proposed by Md. Sabir GM (Mining), Area GM of WCL Umred Area. During the second session of the seminar panel discussion was organised on Challenges for sustainable development. The participants of the seminar were from CIL, WCL, MOIL, IBM, CMPDI, RCOM, VNIT, Sunflag and Deloitte. This daylong session was an useful platform to share the best practices across various mineral industries.
