Son of a martyred PM called ‘Mir Jafar’, hurled insults but Rahul won’t bow down: Priyanka Gandhi attackes BJP

Son of a martyred PM called ‘Mir Jafar’, hurled insults but Rahul won’t bow down: Priyanka Gandhi attackes BJP

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress leader, launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, saying her brother Rahul Gandhi, the son of a martyred prime minister, was called “Mir Jafar” and insults were hurled at his family, but he would not bow down because he belongs to a family whose members have nurtured democracy through their blood.

The attack by the Congress general secretary came a day after the former Congress president was disqualified from the Lok Sabha by a Surat court in a criminal defamation case in 2019.

Posting a series of tweets, Priyanka Gandhi launched an all-out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying in a tweet in Hindi, “Narendra Modi ji, your sycophants called the son of a martyred prime Minister a traitor, Mir Jafar. One of your chief ministers raised questions as to who is the father of Rahul Gandhi? Following the custom of Kashmiri Pandits, a son wears ‘pagdi’ after his father’s death, maintaining his family’s tradition.”

“Insulting the entire family and the Kashmiri Pandit community, you asked in Parliament why we don’t keep the name Nehru. But no judge gave you a sentence of two years. Did not disqualify you from the Parliament?” she asked.

Demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about democracy in danger in London, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra described the Congress leader as the “modern-day Mir Jafar of Indian polity,” who went overseas seeking help from foreign forces to become a ‘nawab’ in India.

Priyanka Gandhi said her brother is a “true patriot” and has questioned Adani Group’s loot, raised questions on Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

“Has your friend Gautam Adani become bigger than the country’s Parliament and the great people of India that you were rattled when his loot was questioned? You call my family dynasty, do note that this family has nurtured India’s democracy with their blood,” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.

This family raised the voice of the people of India and fought for the truth for generations, she added.

“The blood that runs in our veins has one specialty… it never bows down before a coward, power-hungry dictator like you and will never bow down. Do whatever you want,” she said hitting out at Modi.

Priyanka Gandhi mentions 3 names

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party for allegedly rescuing “who looted the country’s money”, naming Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Mehul Choksi.

“Nirav Modi Scam – 14,000 Cr. Lalit Modi Scam – 425 Cr. Mehul Choksi scam – 13,500 Cr. Why has the BJP come to the rescue of those who looted the country’s money? Why is the party running away from investigation? Those who are raising questions on this, cases are brought against them. Does the BJP support the corrupt?” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.

On Thursday, the court in Gujarat’s Surat sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in the defamation case, filed on a complaint by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi for his alleged remark, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?”

Following Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, the Congress declared it a “black day for Indian democracy” and stated that the battle will be fought “legally and politically.”
