Two inmates serving sentence in Nagpur Central Jail have obtained MA and six inmates have BA degrees. The Nagpur Jail. Degrees were distributed today to the prisoners who cleared MA and BA exams this year. Principal of Matruseva Sangh Social Work College Keshav Valke, Head of Department of History of Nagpur University Dr. Shyam Koreti, Superintendent of Prisons Anup Kumar Kumre and Divisional Director of IGNOU Dr. Shivswaroop were present in this graduation program held at Nagpur Central Jail.
Jail Administration has provided higher education facilities for the prisoners to rehabilitate them after their release from prison. A study center was started in Nagpur Central Jail from 2009 through Indira Gandhi International Hindi Open University.
On behalf of this study center, students are given free education in BA, MA (Sociology, Political Science, English) and MBA. Till date hundreds of inmates have graduated while in Nagpur Jail. So, after being released from prison, they benefited from this for rehabilitation in the future. This also provided employment to many prisoners.
