Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University Management Council is considering a fee increase, seeking opinions from principals, institution management, and student organizations. In a meeting held on Thursday, all principals and educational institution representatives supported the proposed fee hike. The committee has suggested a potential 20% increase in fees starting from the current academic session.
Since 2016, the university has maintained the same admission and examination fees. However, in 2022, a new fee structure was approved, including a yearly increase of 7% along with a 20% hike. This decision faced significant opposition, with student organizations demanding the withdrawal of the fee increase due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Some organizations even resorted to hunger strikes.
Subsequently, the university revoked the fee hike proposal. However, the administration has now formed a committee, headed by management council member Ajay Agrawal, with members including Neelkanth Lanje, Devendra Bhongade, Ajay Chavan, and Turke, to reassess and potentially implement a fee increase once again.
