The monsoon arrived in Goa on June 4 and is just hours away from reaching Maharashtra. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the monsoon will hit Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri in southern Konkan today. Rain is also expected soon in Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, and Dharashiv districts. According to retired IMD scientist Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, the monsoon will likely cover most parts of Maharashtra, except for some areas of Vidarbha, by June 10. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for Nagpur and the entire Vidarbha region today.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued warnings of heavy rain and strong winds in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts from Thursday to Sunday, with wind speeds expected to reach 30 to 40 km/h. Rainfall is also anticipated in other parts of the state over the next four days.
Even before the monsoon officially begins, pre-monsoon rains have already caused major disruptions across the state. Pune, Sangli, and Solapur have been particularly affected, with Pune experiencing what seemed like a cloudburst. Heavy rainfall has also hit districts such as Jalgaon, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Amravati, Buldhana, and Wardha.
A yellow alert for thunderstorm and heavy rain has been issued for the following regions:
Konkan: Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg
Central Maharashtra: Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur
Marathwada: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded, Buldhana, Parbhani, Hingoli
Vidarbha: Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Washim, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli
The IMD has advised residents in these areas to be prepared for heavy rainfall and take necessary precautions.
