The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025 will no longer be conducted in the traditional pen-and-paper format. In response to irregularities observed during the 2024 exam, a high-level committee has proposed conducting the exam in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode starting next year. The government is currently reviewing the recommendations.
Cheating Concerns Drive Shift to Online Mode
Headed by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, the committee recommended the CBT mode to enhance transparency and improve data security. This move aims to prevent malpractices such as question paper leaks and impersonation, which have plagued previous editions of the exam. In exceptional cases where online mode is not feasible, the committee suggested adopting a hybrid format.
Plans to Limit Attempts
Another key recommendation involves capping the number of attempts for NEET UG aspirants, similar to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) system. Students will now have a maximum of four attempts, unlike the current unlimited attempt policy. This step is intended to ensure aspirants approach the exam with greater seriousness, but it may also reduce the number of candidates taking the test.
