Nagpur: In a major crackdown on property tax defaulters, the Nehru Nagar Zone of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Wednesday seized multiple properties, including Hotel Regenta, which owes Rs 59.33 lakh in unpaid taxes. The drive, part of an intensified year-end campaign, targeted 27 defaulters collectively owing Rs 2.07 crore in property tax dues.
Officials also seized three open plots owned by Yogesh Chawda, President of Shri Soham Sahkari Gruh Nirman Sanstha, in Wathoda. Chawda’s unpaid taxes amount to Rs 17.95 lakh on one plot and Rs 24 lakh on two others. Notices were put up on the properties, warning the public against conducting transactions involving the seized lands.
Additionally, Pushpa Lawn, owned by Vishal Banode, was attached due to tax arrears of Rs 11.74 lakh. The NMC has urged property owners to clear their dues by December to avoid a 2% penalty that will be levied on outstanding amounts starting January.
Nehru Nagar Zone has been tasked with collecting Rs 31 crore in property tax this financial year. So far, Rs 15.21 crore has been realized, with officials aiming to recover the remaining Rs 15.79 crore.
The enforcement action, led by Assistant Commissioner Vikas Raibole, involved tax inspectors Sanjay Kapgate, Vijay Meshram, Sandeep Patge, Kailash Uke, Sachin Meshram, and Jawahar Dhongde. Citizens can pay their property taxes by visiting NMC’s website at www.nmc-nagpur.gov.in.
