Nagpur: A 16-year-old Class 12 student, Ryan Mohammad Riyaz Khan, tragically ended his life by jumping from the rooftop of his hostel in the Wanadongri area under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station on Thursday. Police suspect academic stress as the reason behind the incident.
Ryan, a student of Gondwana School and a native of Chandrapur, was staying at the ‘Your Space Hostel’ with two classmates. His father, Riyaz Khan, is a businessman based in South Africa.
Incident Details
According to police, Ryan was alone in his room as his two roommates had gone to college in the morning. At around 11 a.m., Ryan went to the fourth-floor rooftop of the hostel and jumped off.
The hostel watchman, hearing the sound of the fall, rushed to the compound and found Ryan lying in a pool of blood. The warden was immediately informed, and Ryan was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Chavan from MIDC Police Station visited the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ryan had been under severe stress about his upcoming Class 12 board exams. He had reportedly told his mother that he was unwilling to take the exams.
The news of her son’s suicide left Ryan’s mother deeply shocked. The police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations.
Authorities are urging parents and educators to address academic pressure and provide emotional support to students to prevent such tragic incidents.
