A surprising discovery revealed that 2 to 2.5 kilograms of gas was being stolen from LPG cylinders delivered to homes. This theft has been going on for some time, but most customers don’t check the weight of their cylinders when they are delivered. Distributors, suppliers, and delivery workers have been taking advantage of this. On Friday, January 10, around 3 pm, a gas theft operation was uncovered in the Ramnagar area of Gonditola, Gondia.
Gas Theft Operation Busted in Gonditola: Two Arrested
On January 10, a raid led by Hemraj Vasant Sahare, a junior clerk and temporary inspector for supply monitoring, uncovered a gas theft operation in the Gonditola area of Gondia. Acting on a tip-off, Sahare’s team caught two individuals, Suresh Rajaram Parteti (32) and Suresh Dulichand Damaha (32), red-handed. The duo was found tampering with the seals of full Indane gas cylinders, using an electric motor and regulator pipe to illegally transfer gas into empty cylinders.
Equipment and goods seized
The police confiscated several items from the scene, including:
• One electric motor with wiring
• Two gas pipes with regulators
• A weighing scale
• Four domestic Indane LPG cylinders
• Three empty commercial blue cylinders
• One filled commercial blue cylinder
Seized Gas Worth Rs 28,700 in Gonditola Theft Operation; Case Registered
The total value of the seized gas is estimated at Rs 28,700. Following a complaint by Inspector Hemraj Sahare, a case has been filed at Ramnagar Police Station under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act (ECA). The investigation is being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Waghmode.
