A woman police constable (WPC) from Sitabuldi Police Station sustained injuries on Tuesday, January 14, after being struck by nylon manja while traveling to her duty station.
The constable was on her way to report for duty when the banned nylon manja caused cuts on her nose. She was immediately provided medical assistance at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital and is now recovering.
The incident underscores the persistent dangers posed by nylon manja, which has been prohibited due to its sharpness and potential to cause serious harm. Despite the ban, its use continues to pose risks during the kite-flying festivities of Makar Sankranti.
Nagpur Police have already implemented measures to mitigate these threats, such as installing safety wires on flyovers and encouraging the use of safety arches on two-wheelers. Authorities have also urged citizens to avoid using nylon manja and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further accidents.
