Nagpur – In a massive crackdown under the ‘Footpath Freedom Campaign,’ the Nagpur Traffic Police took action against 542 cases of illegal parking and encroachments on January 17, 2025. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Archit Chandak, targeted vehicles parked on footpaths and temporary establishments violating laws.
Actions were taken under Section 122 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Sections 102 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The Sitabuldi zone reported the highest number of violations, with 82 actions taken, followed by Lakadganj with 93 cases. Kamptee and MIDC also recorded significant numbers, with 69 cases each.
DCP Chandak emphasized the need to keep sidewalks accessible for pedestrians and urged citizens to avoid parking on footpaths. Hawkers were also advised against setting up stalls on sidewalks, with strict penalties warned for future violations.
The Nagpur Traffic Police have assured continued efforts to maintain pedestrian-friendly public spaces and improve mobility in the city. Authorities have encouraged citizens to cooperate in ensuring compliance with traffic and urban encroachment laws.
