Nagpur: Lakadganj police have registered a case against five individuals, including members of the R.K. Education Counselling Center, for allegedly defrauding aspiring medical students’ parents of lakhs of rupees with false promises of medical college admissions under the management quota.
Hira Siddharth Sahare (52), a resident of Baba Dipsingh Nagar, lodged the complaint, stating that her daughter, who passed Class 12 in 2023, failed to secure a medical college seat due to low NEET scores. Responding to an advertisement, Sahare contacted the counseling center, where the accused assured her of admission to Shri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry, under the management quota.
The accused, identified as Parimal Kotapalliwar, his wife, Milind Dhavad, Nitin Mallatwar, and officials of the Pondicherry institute, took ₹30.75 lakh from Sahare between September 8, 2024, and January 15, 2025. Payments were made through demand drafts and online transfers. Despite the hefty sum, no admission was arranged, and cheques issued for refunds later bounced. The scam also affected another victim from Saoner, who was defrauded of ₹45 lakh.
Lakadganj police have registered a case under Sections 418(4) and 3(5) of the BNS. Police Sub-Inspector Rajput is leading the investigation under Senior Police Inspector Hemant Chandewar’s supervision.
