In an effort to raise awareness about sports and instill sportsmanship among school students, the Education Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has organized a sports competition under the “Education Festival” for primary school students. The competition was inaugurated on Monday, February 3, at Chitnis Park by Central Nagpur MLA, Mr. Praveen Datke. The event was also attended by Additional Commissioner Mrs. Aanchal Goyal, international sportspersons Mr. Raju Gaikwad and Mr. Shubham Palkar, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ganesh Rathod, and Education Officer Mrs. Sadhana Sayam.

During the event, MLA Mr. Datke appreciated the initiative, highlighting that municipal sports competitions used to attract large crowds and expressing his happiness that this tradition is being revived. He also assured support from the MLA fund to reopen closed schools in central Nagpur. International footballer Mr. Raju Gaikwad and Additional Commissioner Mrs. Aanchal Goyal also offered their best wishes to the students.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Sports Officer Dr. P.U. Sh. Ambulkar, Director of Akanksha Sanstha Shri Somasurav Chatterjee, Assistant Education Officer Shri Subhash Upase, Shri Sanjay Dighore, Shri Vinay Bagle, and Smt. Archana Bhotmange. The program began with a tribute to the legendary hockey player, late Dhyan Chand, followed by the release of tricolored balloons. The event was conducted by teacher Mrs. Madhu Parad.
The ‘Shikshanotsava’ is being organized by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary and Additional Commissioner Mrs. Aanchal Goyal. The competitions for students from classes 1 to 5 are being held at Chitnis Park, Mahal, on February 3rd and 4th, while competitions for students from classes 6 to 8 and 9 to 11 will take place at Yashwant Stadium, Dhantoli, from February 5th to 7th.

The program began with a torch relay at Chitnis Park, where students from Manpa Akanksha English Medium School escorted the guests to the platform. Afterward, the sports pledge was taken by all present. Approximately 795 students from classes 1 to 5 are participating in various sports events. On Monday, 80 students took part in the 50m race, 58 in the book balance, 54 in the obstacle race, 29 in the three-legged race, 25 in the stick balance, 56 in the sack race, and 48 in the roller tank. On February 4, boys’ kabaddi and girls’ lameness competitions were organized.
For classes 6 to 8 and 9 to 11, sports events will take place at Yashwant Stadium from February 5 to 7. Competitions include rope pulling (10 to 15 team members), 100m race, shot put, discus throw, and kho-kho on February 5. Kabaddi, volleyball, Langdi, and cricket will take place on February 6, while football, carrom, and chess will be held on February 7. The Shikshanotsav program will conclude on February 10 at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhatt Auditorium.
