Nagpur: A police sub-inspector (PSI) from MIDC Butibori Police Station has been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 from a complainant in exchange for not implicating him in a theft case. The accused, Jyotsna Prabhu Giri (34), was caught red-handed accepting a reduced amount of Rs. 30,000 during a sting operation carried out by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The complainant, a 26-year-old man from Butibori, was summoned to the police station for questioning in connection with a theft investigation. During the inquiry, Giri reportedly seized his mobile phone and demanded the bribe to ensure he would not be named as a suspect in the case. Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification process on February 6, 2025, leading to the successful operation.
The sting operation revealed Giri’s demand for Rs. 1,00,000, but she later agreed to accept Rs. 30,000. The ACB seized the bribe money when Giri accepted it at the police station. A raid at her residence is currently underway, and the process to file a criminal case against her is ongoing.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Digambar Pradhan, Police Superintendent of Nagpur Rural, and Shri. Sanjay Purandare, Additional Police Superintendent. The sting operation team was led by Police Sub-Inspector Rakesh Sakarkar, with support from his colleagues at the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
