Vidarbha’s Mastek Foundation and Shankara Foundation, are supporting the Maharashtra Government’s mission to make the state cataract-free by the year 2027. The social organisations have fixed target of conducting one lakh cataract operations every year free of cost, which is appreciable, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Maharashtra Government started various schemes for common people’s health that includes blindness due to untreated cataract. The Public Health, Medical Education, Social Justice and Tribal Development departments are working together to achieve the target. The mission to make Maharashtra cataract-free was launched in 2017. A large number of charitable hospitals, social organisations, urban and rural government hospitals are participating in the mission. Through 350 operation theatres at least 10 cataract operations per day is aimed at.
