The surge in illegal activities and open alcohol consumption in North Nagpur has raised serious concerns among residents. Due to inadequate police surveillance in several areas, anti-social elements are operating fearlessly, creating an unsafe environment, particularly for women and young citizens.
The North Nagpur Senior Citizens Forum and North Nagpur Women’s Forum submitted a memorandum to Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, demanding stricter law enforcement and a “Janta Darbar” (public grievance meeting) to address safety concerns. The delegation highlighted multiple trouble spots where liquor shops, drug abuse, and late-night disturbances have become rampant.
Near Jaripatka Police Station, miscreants openly consume alcohol and drugs on the streets, making it difficult for pedestrians, especially women. Bezanbagh Ground has turned into a hub for inappropriate gatherings, prompting calls for a permanent police outpost. Similarly, unauthorized eateries near Patankar Chowk are hosting late-night illegal activities, necessitating increased police patrolling.
At Kamal Chowk’s Saturday Market, open liquor sales are preventing women from shopping safely, while Indora Chowk sees frequent harassment by auto-rickshaw drivers near an illicit liquor shop.
In response, Commissioner Singh assured directives to local police for immediate action. Jaripatka Police Inspector Kshirsagar urged residents to report incidents via 112 for quick intervention.
The forums have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement to help restore safety and order in the area.
