Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, recently directed officials to establish a ‘variable energy cyclotron centre’ in Nagpur, signaling a major leap in the state’s medical and educational fields.
The plan includes identifying suitable land for the facility, with the district collector tasked to propose options. A key meeting, presided over by Fadnavis, gathered top officials from the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Nagpur National Institute of Technology (VNIT), and others, marking a significant collaborative effort.
The centre is anticipated to drive advancements in the industrial and educational sectors while expanding cancer treatment capabilities, especially benefiting patients in Vidarbha-Marathwada and central India, according to VNIT Director Prem Lal Patel and Dr. Anand Pathak of the National Cancer Institute in Nagpur.
