The Ambazari Bridge is set to be fully operational for traffic by March 31, while the removal of the obstructing cable wire near the bridge will be completed by February 28, according to an affidavit submitted by the Divisional Commissioner in the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court.
In the affidavit, Additional Divisional Commissioner Dr. Madhavi Khode Chaware informed the court that the Maharashtra government has allocated ₹3.77 crore to facilitate the cable transfer. The removal of the 11-kilowatt electricity wire, which had stalled construction on one side of the bridge, is expected to be completed by the end of February. With this hurdle cleared, both sides of the bridge will be opened for public use by April 1.
Meanwhile, the District Collector has submitted a proposal seeking ₹856 crore for the development of the Ambazari Dam and its surrounding areas. The project includes deepening the Naag, Pili, and Pohra rivers, as well as constructing the Ambazari spillway. The proposal has been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, with the High Court directing a clarification on the matter by March 12.
The case was heard on Tuesday by Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Vrushali Joshi. The bridge construction had been delayed due to the presence of the electricity cable, but officials assured the court that the project is now back on track.
The High Court is hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by local citizens after the Ambazari Dam overflowed during heavy rains in September 2023,
