The temperature in Nagpur and Vidarbha is rising, making the heat more difficult to bear during the day.
By the second week of March, Nagpur recorded a temperature of 38.0°C, with experts from the Regional Meteorological Centre predicting it could rise to 39.0°C by March 10 and 40.0°C by March 12. If these forecasts prove accurate, it would be the hottest start to March in a decade. The city’s highest March temperatures were recorded at 43.3°C on March 31 in both 2017 and 2019. However, the all-time record remains 45.0°C, recorded on March 28, 1892.
The lowest minimum temperature for March was recorded at 8.3°C on March 4, 1898. The current rise in temperatures is due to clear and dry weather, which is expected to continue, pushing the mercury even higher. The heat wave is affecting all ten districts of Vidarbha. According to weather officials, a western disturbance is unlikely to impact Central India.
