The city is all set to celebrate Holi and Rangpanchami on Thursday and Friday, with festivities beginning with Holika Dahan at 999 locations across Nagpur. In anticipation of the large gatherings, the Nagpur Police have heightened security measures, deploying 2,000 additional personnel to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Increased Vigilance and Preventive Measures
Compared to 921 locations last year, the number of Holika Dahan sites has risen this year. Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has instructed Zonal DCPs to take strict preventive action. So far, police have acted against 1,400 criminals and are closely monitoring 26 criminal gangs under MCOCA to prevent any untoward incidents.
During Rangpanchami, concerns over water balloon harassment have prompted the police to issue strict warnings. Damini squads will patrol women’s hostels and sensitive areas, and anyone caught harassing women will be detained immediately.
Emergency Helplines and Public Advisory
Citizens facing trouble can contact the Police Control Room at 112 or 1091. The Commissioner of Police has urged residents to celebrate Holi responsibly, ensuring law and order.
