Nagpur is beginning to feel the heat of summer, with temperatures rising day by day. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has activated its systems at various levels and is on high alert to prevent heatstroke-related incidents caused by the soaring temperatures.
To address the increasing heat, the NMC has developed remedial plans at multiple levels for the well-being of citizens. Following the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, all departments of the Municipal Corporation have been assigned specific responsibilities. Departments such as Health, Garden, Social Development, Water Supply, and Disaster Management have been issued appropriate instructions.
Medical and Public Services Prepared for Heatwave
All medical services have been strengthened as part of the preventive measures. A sufficient stock of medicines has been made available at all health centers for the treatment of heatstroke victims, and medical staff has been trained accordingly. Additionally, the Parks Department will keep all parks open from 12 noon to 4 pm, providing rest areas and drinking water for citizens seeking shade and relief from the heat.
The NMC has also ordered afternoon leave for all construction workers, ensuring compliance. The Social Development Department is arranging shelter for homeless citizens. The Disaster Management Department has ensured that firefighting equipment will be readily available in case of fires in buildings, godowns, or factories. The Electricity Department is working to prevent power outages during peak afternoon hours, while the Transport Department has provided shade and drinking water at city bus stations.
Heat Safety Tips for Citizens
