Nagpur: Violent clashes in Nagpur’s Mahal area on Monday left 34 police personnel injured and 55 vehicles set ablaze. In response, law enforcement has intensified its crackdown on miscreants, while social media is under strict surveillance to curb misinformation.
Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule visited hospitals on Tuesday to meet the injured citizens and police personnel, assuring them of full support. He urged residents to maintain peace and not believe in rumors.
A high-level review meeting was held at the Police Commissioner’s office with senior officials, including Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singhal, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary. Officials confirmed five civilians were also injured, with three discharged after treatment. The role of social media in inciting unrest was discussed, with authorities vowing strict action against those spreading misinformation.
Police have begun analyzing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend those responsible. Bawankule emphasized that rioters and those misusing social media will face legal consequences. Meanwhile, damage assessment is underway for affected properties.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with officials to ensure peace is restored.
Following the review meeting, Bawankule visited New Era Hospital, instructing authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured. Citizens are urged to remain calm and cooperate with officials.
