The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and light to moderate rainfall across several districts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, from April 27 to 29.
Over the past ten days, Vidarbha has been experiencing intense heat, with several districts recording some of the highest temperatures globally. However, the forecasted weather changes are expected to bring some much-needed relief.
Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal will witness light to moderate rains on Sunday. Very light showers are likely in Washim, Bhandara and Amravati on April 27. Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Gondia will record light to moderate rains on April 28 also, whereas other parts of Vidarbha will witness very light show-ers on April 28.
All eleven districts of Vidarbha are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds between April 27 and 29. Additionally, some districts may also witness hailstorms on April 27 and 28.
On April 26, thunderstorms are expected in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, and Wardha. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Akola, Yavatmal, Washim, Gondia, Buldhana, Bhandara, and Amravati.
On Friday, Brahmapuri recorded the highest temperature in the country at 45.5°C, making it the third hottest place in the world. Chandrapur followed closely with 45.4°C, ranking second in India and fourth globally. Akola was the third hottest in India and ninth in the world with 45.1°C. Nagpur also experienced intense heat, reaching a maximum of 44.0°C. Amravati (44.6°C), Yavatmal (44.4°C), and Wardha (44.1°C) all crossed the 44-degree mark. Buldhana, meanwhile, recorded the lowest maximum temperature in Vidarbha at 40.6°C.
All eleven districts of Vidarbha experienced maximum temperatures on Friday that were 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal. Minimum temperatures across the region also remained above average, with Akola, Buldhana, and Brahmapuri recording minimum temperatures exceeding 27.0 degrees Celsius.
