Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari on Friday evening, took action against Deputy Engineer Prashant Nehare, suspending him for his negligence in maintaining the NMC’s administrative building in Civil Lines. Nehare was blamed for not addressing a blocked sewage pipeline on the fifth floor, which led to dirty water leaking down to the ground floor and flooding vital offices, including the commissioner’s chamber.
Despite repeated reminders from the commissioner’s office and other departments, Nehare reportedly ignored the issue and failed to respond to calls. Staff members also complained of misbehavior from him. Over the past three years, NMC has spent a significant amount on repairing leaking pipelines, but the problem persisted, with filthy water pooling near the offices of senior officials. Both Executive Engineer Alpana Patne and Nehare, responsible for the building’s maintenance, faced criticism for their failure to address the recurring issue.
Just a week ago, a fresh blockage in the C-wing led to another major leak. Following the latest incident, Chaudhari summoned Nehare, who arrived two hours late. Unhappy with Nehare’s explanation, the commissioner ordered his immediate suspension.
