Following the success of the ‘No Right Turn’ initiative on Wardha Road, Nagpur’s traffic police plan to extend the measure to the inner ring road between Narendra Nagar Square and Shatabdi Square.
Senior officials have confirmed that the ‘No Right Turn’ initiative will be trialed for a few days during peak hours on the inner ring road. After evaluating the trial’s outcomes, the police will decide whether to extend the restrictions. DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak issued a notification on Sunday, announcing the 7-day trial from April 28 to May 4.
“The ‘No Right Turn’ initiative at Kriplani Square and Rahate Colony Square during peak hours helped reduce traffic jams on busy Wardha Road. Similarly, Suyog Nagar is witnessing heavy congestion during peak morning and evening hours, so there is a need for a similar measure at Suyog Nagar,” the notification stated.
“Motorists from Dighori, Wathoda, Manewada, and surrounding areas often use the inner ring road, causing frequent traffic jams near Narendra Nagar Square, Suyog Nagar Square, and Manewada Square.”
“We have decided to implement the ‘No Right Turn’ initiative at Suyog Nagar between 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Currently, motorists stop at least two to three times at the Suyog Nagar traffic signal, leading to long queues. So, we are implementing the initiative on a trial basis for seven days,” said DCP Chandak.
To manage the increased traffic, the department will extend traffic signal timings at Narendra Nagar Square and Manewada Square by six and four seconds, respectively. As one of the city’s busiest roads, the inner ring road experiences heavy traffic throughout the day, and this new measure is expected to significantly reduce congestion.
During the trial period, motorists traveling from Narendra Nagar to Manewada will be prohibited from taking a right turn, and vice versa. Additionally, those traveling from Badil Kheda towards the TVS showroom at Suyog Nagar will not be allowed to cross the road, and vice versa, during the restriction period.
Pedestrians wishing to cross at Suyog Nagar will need to take U-turns from either Narendra Nagar Square or Manewada Square. The traffic department has provided a feedback number (8976897698) for citizens to voice their opinions on the initiative.
Summary: Narendra Nagar to Shatabdi Square will be designated as a two-way traffic zone Traffic signals at Suyog Nagar Square will operate in blinker mode No right turns will be allowed at Suyog Nagar Square Restrictions will be in place from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm A decision on further implementation will be made after a seven-day trial
