Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, stirred political chatter on Saturday by openly criticizing government systems during an event at Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur. Speaking at a seminar organized by Vidarbha Adventure Association, Gadkari said, “Municipal Corporation, NIT, and other government bodies are useless. They do the work of puncturing a moving vehicle. We need to work differently.”
Sharing his vision to build 300 stadiums in Nagpur, he blamed bureaucratic hurdles for delays and inefficiency, stating, “The government is a worthless thing.” He further cited an example of a Dubai-based individual assigned to run a stadium in Nagpur through a public-private model, emphasizing that services should never be free, as “people value what they pay for.”
Known for his candid remarks, Gadkari also said he often manages ₹5 lakh crore worth of infrastructure work “even without money in hand”, underlining his unconventional but effective financial approach.
