As Ganeshotsav nears, Nagpur is not just prepping for festivities—but also for politics. The city’s political temperature is set to rise with the much-anticipated draft ward boundaries expected to be published between August 22 and 28—marking the unofficial start of municipal poll season.
Sources in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) confirm that the draft is in its final phase. After receiving approval from a municipal panel by July 31, the draft will move to the Urban Development Department by August 5 and then to the State Election Commission between August 6 and 11 for formal clearance.
Once published, citizens will have a week—from August 22 to 28—to file objections or suggestions. Final hearings and reviews will follow through September, with the final ward structure set to be notified by October 6, just ahead of Diwali.
Many aspiring corporators and former leaders—currently keeping a low profile—are expected to jump into campaign mode once the ward maps are out. Political strategists anticipate full-blown poll activity immediately after Diwali, especially with elections likely in early 2026.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Assembly in December—held in Nagpur—will offer a prime stage for behind-the-scenes lobbying and ticket jockeying.
From public processions to political parades, this Ganeshotsav may well be the curtain-raiser for a fiercely contested civic election.
