In a major push to strengthen its civic machinery, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has appointed 177 new candidates across five key departments — marking the largest recruitment in recent years.
The drive, initiated through a December 2023 advertisement, includes 25 Junior Engineers (Civil), 104 Engineering Assistants, 3 Electrical Engineers, 4 Tree Officers, and 41 Nurse Attendants. Appointment letters have been sent via registered post, with recruits soon joining crucial services like infrastructure development, healthcare, and environmental management.
This milestone was achieved under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, with Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vijaya Bankar playing a vital role in executing the recruitment process through the General Administration Department. Her team ensured smooth logistics and verification, maintaining full transparency.
Out of 33,247 applicants, only 245 made it to the merit list. Of them, 24 were absent during verification, while 44 candidates under parallel reservations await departmental clearance.
The online exam was conducted by a state-approved agency, reflecting both the rising demand for civic jobs and the trust in transparent public recruitment.
Officials say the new hires will fast-track stalled projects and ease workload in critical areas like engineering, nursing, and urban forestry.
This fresh intake is not just about filling vacancies — it’s a sign of Nagpur’s renewed focus on efficient, people-first urban governance.
