In a major crackdown on the Shalarth ID scam, the Education Department and Nagpur Police have arrested three teachers, including two women, for allegedly securing jobs by paying bribes and submitting fake documents. The accused, identified as Sujata Yewatkar from Hingna taluka, Aarati Gavande from Umred taluka, and Rohit Kumar Agrawal from Kamptee taluka, were found to have fraudulently created and used fake Shalarth IDs to receive government salaries. A detailed verification conducted by senior officials and employees through the online Shalarth system exposed the scam.
Police investigations revealed that the three teachers collectively earned over ?25 lakh in salaries during a span of 22 months, from August 2023 to June 2025, despite being illegally appointed. The accused reportedly used forged appointment letters and manipulated Shalarth records to appear as legitimate teachers. The Shalarth system, a mandatory online platform for teacher salary disbursement, was misused to process these payments.
Following the discovery, the Education Department lodged a formal complaint, and police arrested the trio under charges of cheating, forgery, and misuse of government records. The scam came to light after the department initiated a targeted verification drive in response to rising concerns about manipulation in the Shalarth system. Officials fear that other teachers may also be involved, and further arrests are likely. Authorities have emphasized that this case highlights the urgent need for strict monitoring and verification of Shalarth IDs to prevent such fraudulent practices in the education sector.
